Firefighter Jim

Email from Mary Farley

Jean has told me about the fire more than once and Kay remembered it too when we talked in Anacortes.

Jim, Kay, Jean, Junior, the boy who lived next door, and maybe Jerry were in the vacant lot next to our house.  It was a lot filled with wild grass, sword ferns and blackberry bushes until 1998 when a building with a parking lot was built there. The grass was high and very dry.  They were playing with sparklers.

Some grass and Kay's shirt caught on fire.  She started screaming and running toward the house.  She was really scared.  Jim dove for her while she was running, rolled her on the ground and put the fire out.

Jim had been in Boy Scouts, and he never forgot the things he learned there.
